Linux server seems to be operational.

Good news everyone!
The Linux virtual machine seems to be working correctly, restoring the majority of our services. Well still need to sort out the Windows server, but that only affects a very small portion of the site. Emails and files on the server before the fire have been restored.

Welcome home to OP-EZY International

OP-EZY is glad to announce that the new server is well on its way to being functional. We've just finished installing Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS into a virtual machine and it's now hosting a rather basic looking home page (based on the title card ITV (Independent Television)) used after the strike of 1979.

We still have a long way to go yet. We need to recover the databases off the old hard drives, the files for each user and website information, and the configuration files that made our server tick before. And lets not forget, we need to also virtualize our Windows server too!
We hope to be back up and fully operational again very soon!

Server fire!

Update 2012-12-27 14:44 GMT: We've just bought a new server, our most powerful server yet. This machine will sport two dual core Intel Xeon 3.0GHz processors, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and will be rack mountable. The idea will be to have the main Linux server and Windows server virtualized on this machine. Stay tuned for updates.

Update 2012-12-21 21:35 GMT: We're still looking into buying a new server. Or if it's more cost effective in the long run to repair the damaged components on the one we were using before. Because of the time of year, getting new parts quickly is rather difficult. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update 2012-12-14 00:07 GMT: Testing the components of the server seems to indicate the fire in the PSU only took down the motherboard (which might be repairable with a bit of soldering to replace the blown capacitor) and one of the optical drives. I was unable to test the Floppy drive, and the obvious venting of the capacitor on the motherboard means I didn't even bother actually testing it as it's a fault that's clearly visible.

Update 2012-12-12 19:52 GMT: The power supply has been confirmed to be the point of failure, more information about the failure has been covered in my (Robert Ian Hawdon) blog: http://robertianhawdon.me.uk/2012/12/12/switched-hosting-and-server-fire/

Update 2012-12-12 00:41 GMT: Robert Ian Hawdon's blog is now on 000webhost and is running fine. The Windows server is showing a message to the root pages of all OP-EZY services explaining that the sites are offline and redirecting them to this page. The Windows sandbox is still online (as that server is unaffected)

----

OP-EZY regrets to inform that once again all our services are offline. This was due to a fire which appears to have originated in the server's power supply.

Testing of the power supply seems to show no signs of life, but after extracting one of the hard drives from the machine, at least one drive seems to be powering up fine, and thankfully, no data has been lost.

It's going to take a few days to get another server built and online. So in the mean time, Robert Ian Hawdon's blog (formally known as Dave's blog @ OP-EZY) is moving to 000webhost, and the Windows server is going to be used to display a message across all affected OP-EZY sites.

OP-EZY, again, apologises for the inconvenience, and hope to be up and running again in the very near future.
